Rice contains nutrients such as Protein, Iron, Carbohydrates, Fiber & Calcium which are essential during pregnancy. However a pregnant mum should be cautious not to eat rice in excess as it contains arsenic which can lead to adverse effects for baby. Furthermore, brown rice is healthier than white rice as it has a lower Glycemic Index (GI) and less likely to trigger gestational diabetes.

You need fiber to help your digestive system stay as regular as possible and prevent common pregnancy symptoms such as constipation.

Protein

Iron
You need iron to help you and baby build healthy red blood cells as your blood volume expands and it could also help prevent preterm birth.

A WORD OF CAUTION!
consult your physician to understand the appropriate quantity of rice to eat as overeating rice can lead to adverse effects (preterm birth etc.) due to the high levels of arsenic it contains. At times, pregnant women have cravings for raw rice. Resist the urge, as uncooked rice could contain pesticides and chemicals that are unsafe for you and the baby.
